Jamaica Labour Party Shadow Minister of Mining and Energy, Senator Robert Montague, is blasting the government for increasing the price of gasoline by J0.86 per litre on the same day world oil prices were reduced by US$1.54 per barrel. He called the action a three card trick and said the Opposition was warning the government that if they continue these weekly increases they will push the people to a point of no return.

General Secretary of the Jamaica Labour Party, Dr. Horace Chang, says the government's treatment of Civil Servants is a breach of trust and will stand with them again this wicked government.

His comments come after analysis of the government's approach to recent public sector wage negotiations: "This approach where workers who are genuinely disgruntled are being threatened and labeled as unpatriotic and disloyal is unacceptable. Jamaica is not a dictatorship".

JLP Caretaker for the Constituency of East Rural St. Andrew, Senator Alexander Williams, is today expressing outrage at school attendance problems affecting children in the community of Bloxburgh. He is calling on the Ministry of Education to immediately remedy the problem which he says is of the Ministry's making.  

Senator Williams said: “The Ministry of Education closed the Bloxburgh Primary School and put in place an arrangement where the children who live in that community would be transported to attend other schools in Cane River and Friendship Park”.

Jamaica Labor Party Deputy Spokesperson on Finance, Fayval Williams, said that news that Moody’s Investors Services upgraded Jamaica’s international credit rating from Caa3 to Caa2 should cause Jamaicans to reflect on how low Jamaica’s credit ratings at Moody’s plunged under the current PNP Government. "Of note, Jamaica’s international credit rating at Moody’s stood at B3 when the Jamaica Labor Party left government in December 2011, a significantly better rating than Jamaica has currently. At that time as well, Moody’s also had a Stable Outlook on the Jamaican economy".

Opposition Spokesperson on Education and Youth, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith says she is extremely concerned at news that the Student's Loan Bureau has implemented penalties for the late or partial payment of loans.

The Senator says that while she understands the SLB is working on ways to increase re-payment of loans in the interests of all who seek to benefit, this step does not seem logical in the current economic environment or consistent with the SLB’s public messaging, and must be reversed.
