JLP Joins Global Campaign - #BringBackOurGirls

Release Date:
Friday, May 9, 2014 - 08:00

The Opposition Spokesperson on Gender Affairs, Olivia “Babsy” Grange today joined the voices across Jamaica and the World calling for the safe return to their families of the close to 300 Nigerian schoolgirls kidnapped by the fundamentalist group Boko Haram.

Ms Grange said “The Jamaica Labour Party stands in prayer and solidarity with the girls, their mothers, fathers and families, and continues to believe in their safe return.”

The Opposition Spokesperson also noted that while it was regretful that the global mobilization of resources and support was somewhat delayed, ” the Jamaica Labour Party is pleased to note the different levels of assistance being provided by different governments across the world with resources available to support the search for the girls and to increase the likelihood of their safe return.”

She said the kidnapping of the girls was wrong in so many ways, and reminds us of the horrors still visited on girls and women all over the world where people still believe that girls do not have a right to be educated, or to live their dreams.

Ms Grange encouraged all Jamaican girls to treasure their access to schooling here in Jamaica, and to join in the prayers and positive thinking towards the safe return of the girls to their families.
