HOLNESS CHALLENGES PNP TO DISMANTLE GARRISONS

Release Date:
Tuesday, March 25, 2014 - 16:45

Opposition Leader Andrew Holness has challenged the PNP Government to join with him in a clear set of activities focussed on the dismantling of garrisons in order to responsibly address the consistent problem of violent crime in the country.

In addressing the East Central St James Constituency Conference of MP Edmund Bartlett on the weekend, Mr Holness observed, “If we are really serious about ending violence in this country let’s see how bold the PNP is in responding to my call to dismantle the thirteen garrisons they have, which match very closely the number of well organised criminal gangs which find solace and hiding spaces in them”.

The JLP Leader went on to detail his prior approaches to the PNP including that of extending a hand to the PNP leader, Portia Simpson Miller for her to walk with him in chosen areas within their constituencies to signal an end for support of demarked areas of entry and exit within communities.

Mr. Holness stated emphatically that for Jamaica to move forward we as a nation must put garrison politics behind us.
