Prime Minister and Jamaica Labour Party Leader, the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, says the Party will avoid confrontational politics.

The Prime Minister made the comment as he addressed a gathering in the town of Falmouth. The Jamaica Labour Party motorcade was disrupted by a gathering of PNP supporters, many of whom were not wearing masks.

The Jamaica Labour Party’s Central Executive today met in St James.  The Central Executive which is the second highest decision making body outside of its annual conference, was convened to hone the Party’s readiness for the upcoming General and Local Government Elections.  
The Party Chairman, Robert Montague’s address, focused on setting the tone for the meeting. He reminded the Central Executive “No seat is immune from loss, and indeed no seat is unwinnable”. The matters focused on by the Central Executive included:

he Jamaica Labour Party announces the appointment of Senator Aubyn Hill as Treasurer for the party effective June 30th 2020. Senator Hill brings to the table a wealth of experience in Finance both locally and abroad. He has been approved by the Standing Committee.

The party also thanks Mr Phillip Henriques, its outgoing treasurer for his stewardship and service to the party during his tenure. We look forward him joining the House of Representatives as an MP after the next General Elections.

Opposition Spokesperson on Education and Youth, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, is expressing concerns regarding reports of the impending closure of several primary schools by the Ministry of Education.
Senator Johnson Smith observed that while the Opposition supports the policy of space rationalization and had in fact started the school space audit aimed at increasing efficiencies in the education sector, the policy must be strategically and sensitively implemented in the interest of children and parents.
