Opposition Hands Lagarde Letter Requesting IMF Review

Opposition Leader Andrew Holness, today received the IMF Chief Christine Lagarde and her team in a courtesy call at his office at West Kings House Road.

A letter detailing the Opposition’s position on the current Extended Fund Facility, which was prepared and signed by Finance Spokesperson Audley Shaw, was handed directly to the IMF Chief by Mr Holness.

The letter set out the Oppositions concerns on the depreciation of the Jamaican dollar, the need to build stability in the Jamaican economy and the challenges which ordinary Jamaicans are experiencing as a result of the movement of the Jamaican dollar. 

The Opposition delegation meeting with the IMF included Finance Spokesperson Audley Shaw, Industry and Commerce Spokesperson Karl Samuda,   Information Spokesperson Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, former Local Government Minister and Party Chairman Senator Robert Montague and and Transport and Infrastructure  Spokesperson and General Secretary Dr Horace Chang.

In speaking to press after the courtesy call Mr Holness noted that the Opposition continues to be responsible in the handling of the issues in respect of the current economic conditions facing the country and also indicated that the IMF chief had actually commended the Opposition on this approach.
