Opposition Spokesman on Industry, Investment & Commerce, Karl Samuda, says Tuesday’s signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Government and Krauck Systems/Anchor Finance is a slap in the face of the Jamaican people, in light of the Minister’s failure to address the range of concerns raised in relation to this transaction.

Mr. Samuda said: “Now that the Government, by way of the MOU, has ill-advisedly proceeded to make commitments to these companies, the Opposition is demanding full disclosure of the contents of the MOU. The country has a right to assess the merits, or the lack thereof, of this entire arrangement and to determine if the MOU stands to adversely affect the Government or any of its agencies such as JAMPRO.”

The Opposition Spokesman continued: “The Opposition sees Tuesday’s signing of the MOU as nothing more than a face-saving scheme by Minister Hylton borne out of the tremendous embarrassment being suffered by the Government as a result of his recklessness and complete disregard for proper management principles.  The Opposition has not only lost all confidence in Hylton as Minister, but regards this action as a blatant disregard for the people of Jamaica and an abuse of Ministerial power.”

Mr. Samuda, in closing said: “Minister Hylton needs to understand that any failure to concretize an agreement that will lead in the short to medium term to the materialization of meaningful investment projects, should necessitate his resignation as Minister.  In other words, his continuation as Minister must depend entirely on the timely and successful completion of these investment projects.”
