JLP Leader Andrew Holness handed over wheelchairs to five families in the constituency of Central Westmoreland when he recently visited to say thank you to Party workers and voters. Having been struck during the campaign by the indigent conditions of a number of persons and families, the JLP Leader sought to bring some cheer relief during the Christmas Season by visits and handing over several items.
Mr Holness said that while on the campaign he had come across many cases of abject need and that this gesture was the start of a process to try to bring structured responses to families.
Among the young people and senior citizens who received wheelchairs was a 12 year old boy with autism who, although not able to speak, was clearly very happy to be in his wheelchair. A 15 year old girl who had been crippled by treatment for meningitis was absolutely ecstatic to receive the gift from Mr. Holness and Councillor Caretaker for Savannah la Mar South, Garfield Edwards, who had accompanied the JLP Leader to her home in his division.
Three senior ladies were also recipients, one who had lost a part of her leg, another who was largely bed bound and a third who had been housebound due to her inability to walk. Their families expressed deep appreciation for the Party Leader's response to their need and stated that they were happy that had not forgotten them and that he had travelled from Kingston to spend time with them.
