Opposition Congratulates Jackson Miller – New PAJ President

Opposition Spokesperson on Information Ms. Olivia 'Babsy' Grange is today congratulating noted journalist and broadcaster Dionne Jackson Miller, on being elected President of the Press Association of Jamaica.

In extending her congratulations Ms. Grange noted that Jackson Miller; “Is one of the best journalists currently on air, her work stands for itself and her investigative reports have shed light on numerous issues of national concern. I wish her a successful term and I know that she will contribute in this capacity with integrity, foresight and professionalism”.

Ms. Grange added that; “Now more than ever Jamaica needs a strong media, populated by journalists who, like Jackson Miller, work in the interest of Jamaicans, performing their roles of informing and educating the public on issues that are and should be of national concern. The Press Association has a willing partner in the Opposition in fulfilling its role as we continue to promote the principles of transparency and probity with Jamaica’s media professionals”.

In addition to congratulating other new members of the Executive, which include: attorney-at-law, Helene Coley-Nicholson as First Vice President; journalist Karen Madden as Second Vice President; journalist Rohan Powell as Secretary; and journalist Celia Morgan as Treasurer, Ms. Grange hailed the work of outgoing President Jenny Campbell, by recognizing her contribution to further improvements of the perception and recognition of the profession.

Ms. Grange also extended an open invitation from the Opposition to the new Executive of the Press Association to meet and discuss collaboration on the enhancement of press freedom as an important aspect of Jamaica’s development.
